Go-Kart Accident Takes Life of Teenager

A teenager from New Hyde Park had just turned 16 in February. It was the same month that she lost her life in a tragic accident while on winter break in Florida.

According to officials, the sophomore cheerleader and field hockey player was at a track at the Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said that the girl was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center following the accident. No details were provided regarding the cause of the accident or its severity.

The accident occurred on the last Saturday in February and the teenager passed away on Sunday. A representative of the raceway confirmed that the accident had occurred but referred any further questions to officials for the track. Those people, or that person, did not return requests for comment.

The teenager is being remembered as a “nice, funny” person. A GoFundMe page was created to help the family with funeral expenses and to help the family.

Because no details of the accident were released, it is unknown whether there was a hazard on the track, the go-kart was in ill-repair or the teen made some type of driving error. If the problem lies with the raceway, they may be ordered to compensate the victim’s family.
