SAN DIEGO, CA – ONE aspiring Latin American lawyer may find it a bit easier to reach their dream, thanks to a new scholarship announced this week by law firm Steinger, Greene & Feiner.
The firm’s Latin Heritage Law Scholarship is meant to help future Latin leaders reach their full potential. It will be awarded to one student of Latin descent who is planning a career in law.
“San Diego has such a strong Latin American community,” said Michael Steinger, the firm’s founder. “And there are young Latinos and Latinas who have a drive to make the world a better place. We want to help them.”
Steinger says that Latin youth have a rich cultural background to draw on as well as individual creative talents.
“It’s a generation that has big ideas,” he said. “They’re bringing a new enthusiasm to the field of law and they have a hunger for justice. That’s what we want to see in a future lawyer.”
Despite that, Steinger says that Latinos are currently under-represented in the legal profession.
“Aspiring Latin lawyers often face barriers that people of other backgrounds don’t understand,” he said. “We can’t remove all of those obstacles but we hope this scholarship will help level the playing field.”
The Latin Heritage Law Scholarship consists of a $1,000 grant and is available to both law students and undergraduates. Application details are available online.
